Five minutes of reading before you pick a doctor
Most people in Khulna pick a Medicine doctor from a name somebody gave them on the phone. That works about half the time. The other half is a wasted evening: the wrong specialist, a long queue, and a second appointment next week with the doctor you should have seen first.
Three things are worth checking before you go.
The degree, not the title. MBBS is where every doctor starts. What comes after it is what they actually treat. FCPS (Medicine) and MD (Internal Medicine) mean years spent on exactly the problems a Medicine doctor sees. MACP and FRCP are memberships, not extra training, so read them as experience rather than as a second specialty.
The chamber hours. A doctor who sits six evenings a week is a doctor you can see again in three days. A doctor who sits twice a week is harder to get back to when a report comes in. For a problem that needs follow-up, the second visit matters more than the first.
Where they sit. A short queue an hour away is still an hour away, twice. If two doctors look equally right, take the near one.
When a Medicine doctor is the right doctor
Go to a Medicine specialist when the problem is inside the body and you cannot name the organ: fever that keeps coming back, a cough into its third week, tiredness that sleep does not fix, sugar or pressure that will not settle, stomach pain with no clear cause.
Go somewhere else when you already know the part: chest pain that comes on with walking is a Cardiologist, a swollen joint after a fall is an Orthopedic, a child under twelve is a Child specialist. Starting at the right door saves one whole visit.
Before you call
Write down when the problem started, what has changed since, and what you are already taking. Take a photo of the strips if it is easier than writing the names. Then call the chamber number, not the doctor’s personal number, and ask two things: the serial for this evening, and the first visit fee.

Questions people ask
What does a Medicine specialist treat?
Fever that will not go, long coughs, diabetes, high blood pressure, stomach trouble, weakness with no clear cause. They are the first doctor to see when the problem is inside the body and you do not yet know which organ.
Do I need an appointment to see a Medicine doctor in Khulna?
For most chambers you call the number on the profile and take a serial for that evening. Walk-ins happen, but the wait is long. Calling first costs one minute and saves two hours.
How much does a Medicine doctor charge in Khulna?
Most chambers in Khulna take between 500 and 1000 taka for a first visit, and less for a follow-up. The fee is on each doctor's profile where we have it. Ask on the phone when you take the serial, because fees change.
What should I bring to the first visit?
Every report you already have, the strips or boxes of whatever you are taking now, and a note of when the problem started. A doctor who can see last month's blood test does not have to order it again.
